In the Efes-2016 military exercise, which 7.5 thousand personnel attended, with 900 of them being foreign military personnel from friendly and allied nations Germany, the USA, Azerbaijan, the UK, Qatar, Pakistan, Poland and Saudi Arabia, Sikorsky S-70 helicopters carried the rocket launchers to their designated emplacements last night as per the scenario.
The personnel, brought aboard landing ships, disembarked with tanks accompanying them, and struck designated targets. After the wounded personnel were rushed to the mobile field hospital by helicopter, allied air forces, consolidated with Saudi Arabia’s two F-15 fighter jets, gave support to the amphibious attack operation.
Helicopters, including national attack helicopter ATAK, as well as mortar and artillery units conducted successful strikes on targets that were designated from air and sea.
Five snipers from Turkey, Poland, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan shot their targets while urban terrorist elements, called “hybrid,” were successfully intervened.
Following the end of the live fire part of the exercise and the speech of Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar, President Erdoğan, PM Binali Yıldırım, National Defense Minister Fikri Işık and other officials visited the fair, held with the participation of 18 national defense companies. After watching the parade of ships, planes, helicopters and boats that participated in the exercise, President Erdoğan left the exercise field.
The exercise, which was held with an international participation for the first time, will be held with national participation one year and with international participation the other year from now on. TCG Heybeliada Corvette, built as part of the MİLGEM project, also took part in the exercise, during which terrorist elements, called ‘hybrid,’ were intervened, and ATAK helicopters conducted strikes for the first as per the scenario.
The exercise field was opened to national defense companies for the first time, as well. The exhibition, held with the participation of 18 national defense companies, was visited by units of participating countries and distinguished observers. National unmanned aerial vehicles, named Bayraktar TB2 and Karayel, also participated in the exercise with their visual intelligence support.
Attending the Distinguished Observer Day were 255 observers and representatives from 79 countries, including President Erdoğan, PM Binali Yıldırım, Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar and force commanders, as well as Minister of Defense Zakir Hasanov of Azerbaijan, Chief of the General Staff Abdulrahman bin Saleh Al-Bunyan of Saudi Arabia, Chief of the General Staff Ghanim bin Shaheen Al Ghanim of Qatar, Chief of the General Staff Viktor Muzhenko of Ukraine, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Anatol Wojtan of Poland, Commander Ben Hodges of the US Army Europe, Chief of Staff Kiyofumi Iwata of the Japan Ground Self Defense Forces, Chief of Army Staff Raheel Sharif of Pakistan.
